The Algal Excretion Product, Geranylacetone: A Potent Inhibitor of Carotene Biosynthesis in Synechococcus
نویسنده
چکیده
The algal excretion product geranylacetone was proved to be an effective and novel inhibitor of carotene synthesis in Synechoccus 6911. The application of geranylacetone resulted in an ac cumulation of phytofluene, indicating an inhibition of the conversion of this compound into fcarotene. The cts-isomer of geranylacetone was as effective as the natural irans-isomer. The chloro phyll synthesis was only slightly affected.

Nor-Carotenoids as the Major Volatile Excretion Products of Cyanidium
Cyanidium caldarium excretes a series of nor-carotenoids. A 110 litre culture was used to isolate and determine the structure of 5 compounds: methylheptone, geranylacetone, /?-ionone, dihydrotrim ethylnaphthalene, butenylidenetrimethylcyclohexene. An algal bioassay was used to determine their effectivness on the growth of photoautotrophic organisms. The growth of Anabaena, Synechococcus, Nannoc...

متن کاملMolecular structure and enzymatic function of lycopene cyclase from the cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp strain PCC7942.
A gene encoding the enzyme lycopene cyclase in the cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp strain PCC7942 was mapped by genetic complementation, cloned, and sequenced. This gene, which we have named crtL, was expressed in strains of Escherichia coli that were genetically engineered to accumulate the carotenoid precursors lycopene, neurosporene, and zeta-carotene. The crtL gene product converts the acyc...

The euryhaline, unicellular cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. strain PCC 7002 produces the dicyclic aromatic carotenoid synechoxanthin (chi,chi-caroten-18,18'-dioic acid) as a major pigment (>15% of total carotenoid) and when grown to stationary phase also accumulates small amounts of renierapurpurin (chi,chi-carotene) (J. متن کاملCloning a gene coding for norflurazon resistance in cyanobacteria.
The herbicide norflurazon inhibits carotene biosynthesis in photosynthetic organisms by blocking the enzyme phytoene dehydrogenase (= phytoene desaturase). We have isolated norflurazon-resistant mutants of the cyanobacterium Synechococcus PCC7942. The herbicide-resistance gene from the mutant NFZ4 has been cloned by genetic complementation of the resistance trait in wild type cells. The experim...
